Aiguille Verte, Whymper couloir - skiing
iva
Please, I am looking for informations about first female ski descent of Whymper couloir (Aiguille Verte) and/or other women who skied this one. I got one answer from Office de Haute Montagne Chamonix that the first women who skied Whymper couloir is Marie-Jo Vallencant (in July 1973 with Patrick Vallencant and Ansleme Baud). However in Patrick Vallencant's autobiography http://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Bio/Patrick-Vallencant he only mentions skiing this with Anselme. I don´t know what is correct? Il_luigi write: most people who are doing extreme or steep skiing (also women) anywhere in the alps do not promote their activities or make them public. it was something special in the seventies when holzer, valeruz and beaud made the first descents. now a lot of people do these "extreme" descents on a regular basis and do not talk about.
Luigi why read this kind website when don´t like public mountains activites? What is bad when some people promote their activites and some photos from this? I think for many people who read this website there are many inspirations for their next trip.

iva, whymper couloir has seen a lot of female ski descents. you are definetly not the first, second or even twentiest women. when i was last time in whymper couloir i also met 2 girls making a ski descent. whymper couloir is frequently being skied down. and none of the people who make a ski descent from whymper couloir do a report to the OHM because it is nothing special! most people who are doing extreme or steep skiing (also women) anywhere in the alps do not promote their activities or make them public. it was something special in the seventies when holzer, valeruz and beaud made the first descents. now a lot of people do these "extreme" descents on a regular basis and do not talk about. by the way, holzer couloir on pordoi has 42 degrees on its steepest part - measured by myself - not 50! anyway good look for your activities, but keep the ball down!
